How do I tell my girlfriend that i want to have a long distance relationship?

me and my girl friend went out over the summer and before she left she told me that she didn't want a long distance relationship (she lives in Tennessee i live in Massachusetts). i went to visit her and and we both love each-other very much and i cried for days after i left. She refers to me as her friend not even boy friend, this is getting difficult for me. how do i deal with this?How do I tell my girlfriend that i want to have a long distance relationship?
